There are many small things you can do yourself to help conserve energy, water, and other resources on campus. If doing it for the environment isn't enough to make you go out of your way, remember conservation saves money too!

Remember to turn off lights when you're leaving your room, office, study area, laundry room, or bathroom. In dorms the hall lights are on all the time for safety reasons, but all other lights should be turned off when you don't need them. Also, natural light is better for your body than atificial light. If it's sunny out, read by a window instead of turning on a light.

After using a bathroom sink or shower, make sure you turn the faucet all the way off. Not only do dripping faucets waste water, but they can splash all over the floor (especially dripping showers) making the floor dangerous, not to mention unpleasant, to walk on. Don't think a little drip is a big deal? You might be surprised. Find out exactly how much water you're wasting and see if it's worth the extra couple seconds it takes to double check the faucet before you leave.

You can also conserve by using "real" things instead of disposable products. Why not bring your own coffee mug to the dinning hall or break room instead of using a styrofoam cup? If you live in a dorm, you can bring your own hand towel with you to the bathroom instead of using paper towels to dry your hands. Believe it or not, little things add up!
