What is the American Animal Producers Club?

A club made up of many students with an interest in production agriculture, varying from livestock to agricultural business, and equine to pre-vet.  The club focuses on the promotion of beef, sheep, goat, swine, equine, and other aspects of the agricultural industry.  In this club, the students are able to strengthen many skills that are essential to success in today's society.  Throughout the year, the club takes part in many events to promote the club, the school, and the production of the agriculture industry.  This gives them many opportunities to interact with influential people in the livestock industry, community, campus, and various regions.  While teaching others and learning new things themselves, the members do their best to have fun, enjoy trips, and be involved in club-building activities.  This club is open to all students on the SUNY Cobleskill campus, regardless of their course of study - the only requirement being... they must have a passion for the livestock industry.

What events take place in an AAPC year?

Throughout the year, AAPC is involved in many activities.  In the fall semester, the main focus is the annual Coby Classic All Breeds Beef Sale, where consignments and buyers are gathered from all areas of New York State, as well as other surrounding, supportive states.  During the weekend of the sale, the club dedicates their time to the youth, as well as hosting junior events – a beef show, and also general knowledge and judging contests.  This event is also an opportunity for New York Junior Beef Producers to interact with one another, as well as AAPC members, that can give them some insight on their futures.  Also in the fall, the club supports the New York State Empire Meat Goat Producers Association show, held at the NYS Fairgrounds.

As springtime rolls in, AAPC members attend the Maine/New England Beef Expo, where they show off the school’s beef animals, as well as their skills as an ever-growing showman.  As a new addition to our spring activities, AAPC concentrates on the Coby Caprine Classic meat and dairy goat sale – workshops and evaluations add to the events of the weekend.  This sale is continually growing in enthusiasm and popularity, and will soon be as big as the club's fall beef sale.  And for all those that wish to gather together and have a great time, AAPC sponsors a themed dance for all to enjoy.  Each event holds its own uniqueness, yet all of which bring the club together to promote the livestock industry to its fullest.
