FAQ’s
Q: Where do I pay my phone
bill?
A: You can pay your phone bill at the Students Accounts office, located in Knapp 118A, or by calling the Students Accounts office at 518-255-5539 and you can pay via credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover), mail your payment to: SUNY Cobleskill, Attn. Student Accounts, Knapp Hall Room 118A, Cobleskill NY 12043.
Q: What do all these
Codes/Numbers do?
A: You get two codes from the automated setup
system. The first number is an “Auth Code” which allows you to dial off-campus.
Do not loose your Auth Code, if someone else gets you Auth Code you will be
held responsible for the calls made with your Auth Code. The Telecommunications
Office recommends that you memorize your Auth Code and destroy any papers you
wrote the number on. The Second number is your Voice Mail Box (VMB) Number.
This is where message will be left for you by anyone that calls your dorm room
and/or global informational messages. When you setup your VMB you will be asked
to “Input a new Security code”, this security code is only for you VMB and is
used to insure that you and you alone have access to the messages left for you.
Q: How do I setup my TV to
work on the Campus Cable TV system?
A: The
exact wording for the commands to setup a TV differs on each Brand of TV. But
in a nutshell, you have to make sure your TV is cable ready and then go into
the programming of your TV and set the input type to ‘Cable’. Then do an auto
program and your TV will scan through the approx 100 channels to find all the
channels we provide programming on. For a current listing of channels please

Q: Once I have my Auth Code – how long before I can use it?
A: Once you have your Auth Code, it may take up to 3 Hrs before it is completely activated and ready for use.
Q: What do I do if I have
lost or misplaced my Auth Code?
A: As soon as you realize that you have lost or misplaced your Auth Code you will need to stop in at the Telecommunications Office located in Knapp 106 and let us know. If you do not let us know you will be held responsible for any calls that are made with your Auth Code. You can get a new Auth Code for $10. A small price to pay if someone else has gotten your code and tries to make a lot of calls.
Q: What do I do if I have
forgotten my Auth Code?
A: If you have forgotten you Auth Code you can stop in at the Telecommunications Office in Knapp 106 with your student ID card and we will look it up for you.
Q: Do I get a new Auth Code
every semester?
A: The
Telecommunications Office Issues new Auth Code every fall to all students.
Q: I am a returning student for the Spring Semester and my Auth Code that I used Last semester is not working, what do I do?
A: Stop
in to the Telecommunications Office with your Student ID and ID number. The
Telecommunications Office is located in Knapp 106 and the hours are 8:00am to
4:00pm Monday thru Friday.
Q: What do I do if I have forgotten my Voice Mail Box Number or Security code?
Q: How do I get my Voice Mail Box to move with me when I change rooms?
A: Make sure your RD does all the paper work and when the changes have been completed in The Residential Life Database then your Voice Mail Box will move that evening automatically.
Q: What do I do if my phone
doesn’t ring?
A: Make sure the small lever on the upper right hand side of your phone is in the down position. If that doesn’t work please log your trouble on the online TechSupport link, located on SUNY Cobleskill’s home page.
Q: Why is there an $9.00 charge on my phone bill every month?
A: A mandatory monthly charge of $9.00 will be applied to each housed student for:
· Incoming/outgoing calls
· On campus calling
· Access to telephone equipment in several campus locations
· Full voice mail authorization from home or from campus
· Easy access to emergency messages while on campus
· Ability for faculty to leave voice mail for whole class
or for individual students
This mandatory fee will not be
pro-rated. It will be applied through all holiday and semester breaks.
Q: Can I make International
Calls?
A: You
can make international calls using your authorization code, but before you do
you need to ask for permission to do so. For security purposes international
calling is turned off so if someone gets a hold of your Auth Code and they
can’t make international calls and charge them to your Auth Code.
Q: How far back can the Telecommunications Office bill me for calls and/or service(s) that they missed on previous bills?
A:
According to the Public Service Commission (PSC): No telephone charges for
previously unbilled services rendered/calls, when the period for the unbilled
