The Housing Survey for Fall 2006 is now available.
We ask a number of questions and there are over 20 criteria to match students. As you follow the tips, be aware of the question weight (if there is one). 1 is the least important to 8, which is most important. If a question is weighted a 9, that means it is so important, you will be housed special. We can not stress enough how date sensitive your survey is.
- Question 1: Welcome
- Question 2: Date; students are housed on a first-come, first-serve basis. We do our best to match you accordingly with a roommate based on your responses and with what we offer. Note: We will not be able to match ALL of your requests.
- Question 3: Gender; we must clarify what gender you are, if this is not correct, you can not fill out the survey. We do not house males and females in the same room.
- Question 4: Status; we show what our records indicate as your student type - New Freshman, Returning, New Transfer, Internal Transfer. If this is not correct, please stop filling out the survey, and contact us immediately. We prefer to house Freshmen with Freshman, Returning with Returning or Continuing and Transfers with Transfers or Continuing. The likelihood of a freshman being housed with a continuing student occurs when a continuing student does not have a roommate and the freshman is late in their housing (i.e. there is no where else to put the New Freshman)
- New Freshman = new student to Cobleskill.
- Returning = a student who attended Cobleskill in the past, but had a break in semesters.
- New Transfer = a student who transferred from another institution.
- Internal Transfer = a student who attended Cobleskill and has transferred into another level (associate's degree to a bachelor's degree).
- Continuing = a student attending Cobleskill with no breaks in semester.
- Question 5: Transfer Credits; This question pulls up any credit information you may have transferred in, so that if you are a Bachelor student and meet the requirement, we may house you in our Bachelor building (Davis Hall).
- Question 6: Major; we must clarify your major to match your request to have the same major roommate. This also clarifies for you what your major is according to our records.
- Question 7: Same Major/Academic Division Roommate; this is a Yes or No question and is a required field. Weight: 7
Questions 8 - 15 are lifestyle questions; they are not required fields, but we feel that by indicating your preferences, we can make a good roommate match.
- Question 8: Smoking; ALL residence halls are smoke-free, HOWEVER, our students are not. Some people are allergic or can not tolerate smoke and we do not want to match a smoker with a non-smoker. Weight: 8
- Question 9: Tidiness; we want to try to match your cleanliness level with another who has similar patterns. It is important that you be honest in how neat you are. Weight: 4
- Question 10: Music; we want to try to match your music preferences with someone who has similar preferences. Weight: 5
- Question 11: Noise Level; we want to try to match your noise level for study purposes with someone who has similar preferences. Weight: 4
- Question 12: Hours; we want to try to match your sleep hours with someone who has similar preferences. Please answer this question as accurately as you can. Late - to go to bed = after midnight and to get up = after 10am; Early - to go to bed = before midnight and to get up = before midnight. We know that times vary for everyone. Weight: 5
- Question 13: Study Hours; we want to try to match how many hours you will spend studying in your room. Weight: 5
- Question 14: Guests/visitors; we want to try to match your social level. Do you have people (friends, boyfriend/girlfriend) coming to visit a lot? Are you a social butterfly, easily meeting people, always having people over? Are you a quiet person wanting to be with another quiet person? Are you a quiet person wanting to have a social roommate? We know that this varies for everyone. Weight: 3
- Question 15: Roommate Request; you MUST enter the person's Unique Survey ID (USI). Do NOT give out your student ID # (Starts with 800). If you give your USI to more than one person, and more than one person requests you, you are likely to be tripled. Roommate Requests MUST be of the same gender. Once the USI is inserted please hit the 'REFRESH PAGE' button to insure that your requested roommate's name shows next to the ID box. Both roommates should have the same requests. Weight: 8. If there is no roommate request to match yours you will be assigned a roommate based on your answers to the survey.
- Question 16: Co-ed or single gender; Draper Hall is all Male; Wieting Hall is all Female. If you are late to sign-up for housing and we can not accommodate a co-ed request, you will be placed in single gender housing. Weight: 7
- Single gender = Students continue to request that a traditional all male and all female residence hall be offered. These halls are in high demand and offer men and women the opportunity to live in a single gender environment that fosters a strong sense of community for the men and women living together.
- Co-ed = houses both males and females within the same building. Floors, corridors and/or lounge areas generally separate the rooms. Bathroom facilities are single-sex.
- Question 17: Hall request; we will try to match your request if you want to live in a particular building. This question offers a drop-down menu. If you have no request, then leave it on 'Doesn't Matter.' If you are late signing up for housing and we can not accommodate your building request, you will be placed in another residence hall. Weight: 6
- Question 18: Vacation Housing; we try to accommodate the needs of our students who will need housing when the college is closed. Our vacation housing residence halls are Porter Hall and Pearson Hall. If you do not request these halls, but request vacation housing, you will be placed in Porter or Pearson Hall over your other building request. Vacation housing is for anyone who requests it, but most commonly International students, Independent students, Athletes, SUNY Cobleskill farm employees, Early Arrival and Athletic Dept. employees. If you are late signing up for housing and we can not accommodate your vacation housing request, you will be placed in another residence hall, most likely without vacation housing accommodations. (Please note: there is a fee with vacation housing - see lifestyle book). Weight: 8
- Question 19: Double or Triple; the earlier you fill out your survey, the less likely that you will be tripled. If you indicate that you can live in a triple, you will be tripled. We do have a de-triple process. Weight: 7
- Question 20: Medical; if you need a special arrangement for your housing due to a medical condition, please indicate 'Yes.' By doing so, you are implying that your information is already on file with Lynn Abarno in Academic Support Services (518-255-5282, abarnol@cobleskill.edu). If you indicate 'Yes' and your information is not on file, we will not be able to meet your housing requests and you will be housed on a space available basis. Weight: 9
- Question 21: On the Hill; you are indicating that you are aware of our Student Conduct Codes and Terms and Conditions of Residence Hall Occupancy.
