SUNY Cobleskill and the New York Power Authority (NYPA) are working together to stock Blenheim-Gilboa waters with trout and walleye.
NYPA purchased over 2,000 brown and tiger trout from the Fisheries & Aquaculture program in 2004.
NYPA and SUNY Cobleskill have expanded their relationship to include the culture of walleye for restocking the B-G upper reservoir in 2007.
SUNY Cobleskill students are involved in all stages of this project from design, construction and fertilization of ponds to water quality monitoring, walleye and trout rearing, harvesting and delivery to NYPA.
An expansion of our pond culture facilities should add more warm water culture hands-on experience to the resume of a student as well.
Maintaining a recreational fishery at NYPA’s Blenheim-Gilboa facility is in the common interest of the NYPA, SUNY Cobleskill and the sportsmen and women of Schoharie County.
