Volunteerism and Service Learning

Volunteer Services are coordinated under the Office of Community Outreach by Cherie Stevens. The Student Community Service Club works with Ms. Stevens to coordinate many service projects to benefit the local as well as global communities. The projects provide opportunities for many students, clubs and organizations on campus to get involved. All projects are open to all members of the campus community.

Here are just a few of the projects:

  • Military Mail - with this project cards and letters are sent to our military personnel stationed all over the world. SUNY Cobleskill is presently #2 in the nation and #1 in New York State among colleges and universities, as a result of the fine efforts put forth by students, staff and faculty.
  • Feed the Children - 6 times we have raised enough money to bring in over 30,000 pounds of food through the “Feed the Children” national organization enabling us to fill all 22 food banks in the local county.
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Coats for Kids - partnering with the Schoharie County Community Action Program, we are able to help get coats to those who need them.
  • Adopt-a-Family - this annual tradition gets many clubs, organizations, offices and individuals to “adopt” a local family for the holidays by providing food, clothing and toys for that family. The campus “adopts” about 20-25 families every year.
  • Coby Challenge Games - partnering with ARC, we host our own version of the Special Olympics with over 100 athletes from Schoharie County competing and over 130 volunteers.
  • “Legacy of Love” - this is the signature fundraiser for ARC and the Student Community Service Club and Phi Theta Kappa are the sponsors.
  • Schoharie County Animal Shelter
  • Visits to local nursing homes.
  • Marathon for a Better Life - now in it’s 9th year this annual event raises money to help those fighting Cancer in Schoharie County.
