Student Technology Services (STS) Program

With the dramatically expanding role of information technology in the workplace and in the teaching and learning environment, customer support has become a mission critical task for ITS.  Along with many other colleges and universities, Cobleskill adopted a student worker approach that provides an effective supplement to limited full-time staff and also provides a meaningful educational opportunity for students.  Beginning the Fall 2001 Semester, SUNY Cobleskill implemented the Student Technology Services (STS) Program.  A limited number of  students are employed each semester to assist ITS technicians with ITS related responsibilities.  These students were selected based on applications and interviews.  The program, which is being run through the ITS Help Center, provides these students with valuable hands-on technical training as well as customer service and career development skills to create an intensive, meaningful educational opportunity as well as a  concrete, marketable job experience.

STS students are treated as employees of ITS and will be paid for their hours.  While initially these services are focused in the Help Center, as the program develops, job descriptions will be added to the STS portfolio providing support for media services, applications training, faculty Web and multimedia development and many other areas.  As we see the STS program growing in support and development, we also hope to attract other students to this program. As new positions become available, students will be notified through Blackboard, Student Sharepoint, email, and on our Web page.
