E-mail and Internet Access

E-mail

Your Cobleskill e-mail address is   YourNetworkAccountUserName@cobleskill.edu

Electronic mail is the official means of communication at SUNY Cobleskill.  While many students prefer their own e-mail service and e-mail can be read/sent in a variety of ways, campus offices will be communicating with students via the CAMPUS e-mail system, Microsoft Office Outlook.  For additional information, consult the Knowledge Base article on accessing e-mail from your own computer http://sharepoint/kb/public/emailaccess.htm

The primary role of SUNY Cobleskill’s student and faculty/staff mail servers is to send and receive messages.  These servers are NOT storage facilities.  Allowing e-mail messages to accumulate indefinitely can overwhelm available storage capacity and can cause servers to fail, disrupt e-mail services, and result in the irretrievable loss of stored files.  In order to properly maintain these functions, quota and management procedures have been put into effect.

A Cobleskill network account is required to access Cobleskill's e-mail servers which is set up with a unique username and password.

Faculty/Staff:  Campus-standard software installed on all office/faculty computers include Microsoft Outlook  for e-mail access.  The following are mailbox quotas:

Faculty/Staff e-mail accounts:  40MB

Office accounts:  40MB

Message send/receive size limits: 20MB

Students:  All students have a SUNY Cobleskill mailbox that will be used to disseminate information.  It is imperative that students check their campus e-mail accounts on a regular basis to be sure that they don't miss out on vital information.  The following are mailbox quotas:

Student e-mail accounts:   20MB

Message send/receive size limits: 10MB

How to activate your network account and e-mail services

·       Go to the SUNY Cobleskill home page:  www.cobleskill.edu

Some features of Microsoft Outlook that are available on campus may not be accessible from the Web page, but users will be able to view most options including Inbox, Contacts, and Calendar.  To access some secure, restricted areas (e.g. some web pages, M:drives, Faculty Y:drives), users will need to establish a Virtual Private Connection (VPN) to the local network which will allow access to these resources.

To locate e-mail addresses for faculty, staff, and students:

·       Search by last name in Microsoft Outlook's global address list

·       From the SUNY Cobleskill home page:  www.cobleskill.edu, click in the box before Search People, and enter last name.
