Course Listing: Chemical Technology, A.A.S.
Hofstra-Cobleskill Chemistry Project with rural high schools
Chemistry is at the forefront of some of the most exciting work in science today: the search for new materials to meet the demands of new technology, the quest to understand the molecular basis of life, and the assessment of global pollution, to name a few. At SUNY Cobleskill, we offer a two-year program of study leading to an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree with a concentration in Chemical Technology. This program could be your key to an exciting and rewarding career in science.
As a student in this program you will develop a basic foundation in university-level science, mathematics and liberal arts. In addition, advanced laboratory-intensive courses in Organic Chemistry, Analytic Chemistry and Instrumental Analysis will provide the special knowledge and techniques needed to begin your career in chemistry. A variety of optional courses in science, mathematics and computer science allows you to customize your program to meet your specific career goals.
Graduates of the Chemical Technology program are employed in laboratories specializing in research, environmental testing, quality control and chemical production. You will be interested to know that the demand for chemical technicians often exceeds the supply of available graduates.
An Associate degree, however, can be just the beginning of your career. Most of our graduates choose to continue their education. Some do so part-time while employed as chemical technicians; others transfer immediately upon graduation into four-year programs in chemistry, chemical engineering or pharmacy.
