Course Listing: Child and Family Services, A.S.
In the fall of 1998, the Early Childhood Department at SUNY Cobleskill initiated a new Associate of Science Degree Program in Child and Family Services. The A.S. Degree program in Child and Family Services will provide a 66-credit hour curriculum designed for students who plan to work with children and families within a broad range of community agencies and careers. Graduates of this program will be prepared for entry-level positions, as well as transfer to four-year college programs.
The Child and Family Services program presents a unique focus for students by:
- Providing inter-departmental cooperative curriculum design as a joint effort of the Early Childhood Department and the Department of Social Services.
- Emphasizing the child as a family member with specific developmental needs that need to be recognized by parents, family members, guardians, and caregivers.
- Integrating coursework, facilities, and practicum experiences within a rural community environment.
- Addressing both current human needs as well as developing employment-seeking skills for graduating students.
- Designing a program that allows students to select from a broad range of careers within community agencies such as:
- Social Worker
- Family Services Coordinator
- Social Welfare Service Aide/Counselor
- Inter-generational Care Counselor
- Conflict Resolution Counselor
- Senior Citizens Support Counselor
- Children's Services Referral Agencies Advocate
- Youth Bureau Counselor/Director
