SUNY Cobleskill's Early Childhood programs meet all the recommendations of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The program has also been used as a model for the development of Early Childhood curricula throughout New York State. College transfer personnel, employers, and our students can confirm our reputation as a quality Early Childhood program
Students have the opportunity to work directly with young children in their first year. The Effie Bennett-Powe Child Development Center is an on-site preschool in which students can complete a practicum experience in the third or fourth semester. In addition, the Cobleskill Campus Child Care Center provides care for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and older children in an after-school program. A practicum experience here gives our students a broader experience and allows them to make decisions about the range of career possibilities.
Students in the Teacher Education Concentration will be placed in a local school district with young elementary school-aged children. All practicum experiences are guided by an Early Childhood faculty member and cooperating teacher.
